New Deal
Does Steven Madden Ltd. have another trick up its sleeve? At an appearance at Macy’s new expanded shoe floor on Thursday, Steve Madden himself hinted that the company is working on another deal, to be announced within the next couple of weeks. While he wouldn’t reveal specifics on the nature of the deal, the rumor comes after a busy six months for the firm, which signed a 50-50 deal for the Eric Rutberg Transparent line in August and formed a partnership with Kari Sigerson for a new line called 7B. “We’re always expanding,” said Madden, who signed shoes and posed for photos with a lengthy line of consumers at Macy’s.

Party Favor
Beth Shak is trying her hand at a new game — shoe design. The poker player hosted a launch party for her eponymous collection on the Upper East Side in New York on Thursday. "I really want to [appeal] across the board and give something to everybody," she said of the line, which includes both couture and bridge styles. "To be a good designer you can't just say, 'I want to wear this,' you have to say, 'I might not wear this, but she will.'" Shak's couture collection of crystal-encrusted pumps will retail for $600 to $1,900 and is handmade in Italy, while the bridge line of wedges, flats and strappy sandals is manufactured in China with imported Italian leather and retails for less than $200. But where does Shak's own collection leave her reported 700 pairs of Christian Louboutins? "Of course I'm going to continue to wear [Louboutin]. It would be ludicrous for me to say I'm not going to," she said. "But right now, I want to wear my shoes. I feel like I just gave birth to a new baby and I'm attached." Shak said she's still in talks with major retailers about carrying her collection.
