Ladies Who Lunch
An all-star group of women celebrated Mother's Day a little early at the 35th Annual Outstanding Mother Awards, held Thursday at the Pierre Hotel. Actress and event honoree Debra Messing reflected on what motherhood has meant to her: "My son Roman has given me the gift of clarifying what my priorities are," she said. "He's completed my sense of self." Fellow honoree Margarita Arriagada, chief merchant of Sephora USA, talked about being recognized. "Most moms feel like we never do enough for our children, so to be recognized, it's really a humbling experience." And Mindy Grossman, CEO of HSN Inc. and an honoree in 2010, shared her thoughts on carving out a successful career. "We can work and be moms, and make an impact on the world, but we need to do it in our unique way," Grossman said. Proceeds from the luncheon and live auction benefited the Save the Children organization.
Paint the Town Red
Kirna Zabete co-owners Sarah Easley and Beth Buccini feted their ongoing collaboration with Nine West at their Soho store on Thursday night. Now in month four of the six-month partnership, May is all about "Mommy & Me," featuring sandals that come in both women's and girls' sizes. Ten percent of sales from the May line will benefit Jessica Seinfeld's Baby Buggy charity. "We're selling out," Buccini said of the collection. "We found our inner-designer for shoes and we've been having a ball." The evening also marked one last hoorah for the store, which is moving from Greene Street to Broome Street next month. Guests helped commemorate the evening by painting the walls and leaving messages for the duo.
