For Christian Louboutin’s 20th anniversary this year, he partnered with Parsons The New School for Design and Bergdorf Goodman on a design competition. Each of the contestants (Parsons alums chosen by both Louboutin and Linda Fargo, SVP of fashion office and store presentation at the department store) created a ready-to-wear look inspired by Louboutin’s 20th Anniversary Capsule Collection. Five participants, out of 20 finalists, will win the chance to showcase their shoes at Bergdorf Goodman on Tuesday. “I work with many young designers and I believe it is in the order of natural things for a more mature designer to help a younger one,” Louboutin said in a statement. “Thinking of my journey, I was helped in the beginning by people in a very nice way and this project with Parsons and Bergdorf Goodman is a way to give back and nurture a new generation of talent.”
Tanya Becker, co-author of “The Physique 57 Solution,” is a boot girl all the way. The writer was on hand at Stuart Weitzman’s Fifth Avenue boutique in New York this week to fete the launch of her book alongside Lauren Bush Lauren, a fan of the Physique classes. Becker also was showing off her suede knee-high black boots by the Weitzman. “I want to sleep in these tonight,” she joked, “Stuart Weitzman is such a classy brand and our exercises are classy.” To take her love of shoes to the next level, Becker has partnered with the Blake Brody brand, an eco-friendly yoga footwear line, to create a Physique 57 limited-edition shoe. It’s meant to wear in fitness classes and will be available online at Physique57.com and at Blakebrody.com, starting Feb. 1.
Fans are ravenous for the big-screen debut of “The Hunger Games.” And so far, viewers are getting plenty of shoe moments around the film, too. The recently launched website Capitolcouture.pn, a fashion blog to build buzz for the movie, has revealed several key looks, including a standout pair of gold Alexander McQueen Faithful peep-toe booties worn by Elizabeth Banks’ character, Effie Trinket. And Jennifer Lawrence, who will also star, stepped out last week to announce the 84th Annual Academy Award nominees in Los Angeles while wearing Brian Atwood Maniac pumps.
