Frye might not have formally worked with costumers from “The Hunger Games,” but the brand is getting some coveted screen time in the super-hot flick. In one hunting scene, Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Katniss Everdeen, sports a pair of the brand’s Melissa tall lace-up boots. And though it’s too early to detect an uptick in sales on the specific style, Frye insiders said they are hopeful they’ll see results.
Kicking It Old School
Jeff Townes, aka Jazzy Jeff, is taking it back. The DJ and record producer of “Fresh Prince” fame helped fete Pro-Keds’ spring collection of retro sneakers by spinning some old-school hip-hop at the brand’s “Throwback Party” in New York. Townes, an avid sneaker collector himself, also collaborated with Pro-Keds on a special makeup of the Royal Master style, which hits stores this fall. “I mean, you can’t beat that,” Townes, who was wearing the personalized kicks, told Spy before hitting the turntables. “It’s always been a dream of mine to have my own sneaker, so this is special.” The DJ also hinted at some rare gems that are hidden in his shoe closet. “I’m a size 9, which is a sample size, so I have a lot of sneakers that they only made one of,” he said.
