Pierre-André Senizergues knows how to pay it forward. The Sole Technology CEO recently handed out 2,000 pairs of Etnies shoes to the homeless at the Los Angeles Mission’s annual event on Skid Row.

“When I came over here from Europe, I was homeless and living in Venice Beach, [Calif.], so I know how it feels to be alone and you don’t feel that you belong,” he said, adding that this is his 16th year participating in the event and, in total, he has given away 38,000 pairs of shoes. “This is our opportunity to help put the homeless back on their feet and give them a sense that people care.”

Etnies team rider and pro skater Ryan Sheckler also was on hand to help with the event. “If you show a little bit of love to people who need it, great things can happen,” Sheckler said.

Lately, the athlete said, he’s been trying to show his body some love after a skating accident in Australia. But now that he has the green light from his doctor to get back on the board, he’s training for a full summer competition season.

“I leave on the 13th to go to Brazil for the start of the International X Games,” he said. “Then, I come home for a month. Then, I go to Germany for the next stop of X Games. Then, a month after that, I’m in Barcelona, and then I’m back in Los Angeles. It’s a packed summer.”
