Sam Edelman had his riding shoes ready — or at least ready to sell — during the Hampton Classic horse show last weekend. As a sponsor, the label’s branding appeared on riders’ jackets, as well as on horse saddles, and the company opened a shop on the grounds of the Bridgehampton, N.Y., show — its fourth in four years. But for the first time the store sold children’s shoes, including ballerina flats and sneakers, which sold out in just three hours, Edelman told Spy. “This is one of the great social events on the East Coast, and Sam Edelman has become a part of it,” he said. “[The product] was well received, which was exciting.” And the event also drew several celeb guests, including Christie Brinkley and Matt Lauer.
Designer Lynsey Hand has a new fan: Taylor Swift. The pop star has been photographed wearing shoes from Shellys, one of two women’s labels designed by Hand for Starmark Brands Ltd. “We sent [Swift] five or six pairs, and then her agent emailed us and said [she] loved them and wanted to know where she could just go buy them herself,” said Hand, who also serves as managing director for London-based Starmark. “It was brilliant.”
Cameron Silver, owner of the well-known Decades store in Los Angeles and creative director of Decades Denim, is no stranger to collaborations, but his most recent endeavor takes him into the world of footwear through a partnership with Modern Vintage. He created a capsule collection that features the best styles from the 1950s to the 1980s. And Modern Vintage CEO Rick Cytrynbaum said Silver has a knack for the vintage world. “This collection definitely speaks to Modern Vintage, and we love what he brought to the table,” he said. The styles will debut Feb. 15 and will retail at Neiman Marcus and Shopbop.com, in addition to the Decades store.
