Toms Shoes last week encouraged people to think inside the box. The company embraced the customization craze by putting artists, musicians and even firm founder Blake Mycoskie in a glass box in Venice, Calif., to design shoes. Over five days, various artists lived in the space, one at a time, while they took customer orders via streaming video. Mycoskie was on duty the final night, at one point giving a shout-out to Footwear News.
