Deckers Names Direct-to-Consumer Head

Former Converse VP to help firm grow store count to 200 by 2015.

Deckers Outdoor Corp. has a new head of retail.

Effective mid-August, David Powers will become president of direct-to-consumer, leading Deckers’ retail and e-commerce businesses, the firm announced Monday.

Powers was most recently VP of global direct-to-consumer and licensed retail at Converse. He was also previously worldwide GMM at The Timberland Co., and DMM for men’s and kids’ businesses at Gap Inc.

In his new role, Powers will report to Angel Martinez, chairman, president and CEO of the Goleta, Calif.-based Deckers.

Martinez said in a statement that Powers’ “background makes him the ideal person to lead our consumer direct division at this point in its evolution. I am confident he will be an invaluable asset as we continue to expand our global business, including growing our store base to approximately 200 by the end of 2015.”
