Brooks Sports Inc. has a new sponsored athlete.
The Seattle-based footwear firm, which celebrates 100 years in 2014, added Olympian Nick Symmonds to its roster on Thursday. The move, the company said, is an example of a deepened commitment to competitive running this year.
“Nick is one of the few athletes who understands that their job is not just to run fast but to use their role as professional runners to inspire others to Run Happy,” Jesse Williams, head of sports marketing for Brooks, said in a statement. “In addition to meeting his goals on the track, Nick works tirelessly off the track to put a spotlight on the sport. As a company that is singularly focused on the run, Nick’s vision and passion for running make him a perfect addition to our team.”
Symmonds, who holds the fastest time in the country for the 800-meter distance, will join the Brooks Beasts Track Club, a middle distance, Seattle-based training group formed last year by the brand to set a new standard for racing, team, culture and spirit on and off the track.
In the realm of running, Brooks also supports high school and college teams, leads the Inspiring Coaches program to recognize high school track and cross-country coaches, and sponsors top-tier marathons, road races and high school meets.
