Bob Rief is entering the comfort zone.
Comfort brand OTZ Shoes said Thursday that Rief, a longtime footwear and action-sports veteran, has been named CEO of the Malibu, Calif.-based brand. Rief succeeds brand co-founder Ludo Malmoux, who will assume the role of president and creative director.
“I am very pleased to join the OTZ Shoes team and help explore the brand’s opportunity in the contemporary comfort shoe category,” Rief said in a statement. “The styling is amazing, with a great palette and minimalist construction that has a fresh look with a very functional fit system.”
For his part, co-founder Skip Murgatroyd said in a statement that Rief was the right leader to grow the brand. “Bob is one of the most well-respected and tenured names in the industry,” he said. “His proven experience in realizing brand potential will bring enormous value to our company.”
Rief most recently served as COO of Boardworks Surf. He was also CEO of Sanuk Footwear and president and CEO of Reef.
Malmoux and Murgatroyd founded the company in 2009. The brand is now sold at 500 retail locations in the U.S., as well as in 20 countries.
