Biz Markie's Good Taste

The DJ talks sneakers and hip-hop music.

Nobody beats the Biz when it comes to hoarding sneakers. Boasting a collection of more than 5,000 shoes, Biz Markie (née Marcel Theo Hall) has roots deep in hip-hop and in footwear. The legendary disc jockey’s prowess was called upon by Pro-Keds for a collaboration on a special edition of the brand’s 69er style last year. Here the Biz sounds off on personal style and where he first fell in love with music.

My personal style is ...

Earliest music memory:
“Listening to a tape of the L Brothers back in the eighth grade.”

Favorite place to grab a bite:
“Taste of Seafood in Harlem on 125th Street. I really like fish.”

Top sneaker haunts:
Packer Shoes in Teaneck, N.J., and West in New York

I never leave the house without ...
“My keys.”
