Leslie Gallin is moving on up.

The executive, formerly VP of footwear for Advanstar Global LLC, has been named president of footwear for the trade show group, effective immediately.

She oversees the category for all of the Advanstar shows, including FN Platform, which she has built into a powerhouse event since its launch in 2010.

“It’s a great sense of accomplishment to work hard for something and be rewarded for it,” said Gallin. “I had a vision of how we could bring the footwear industry together, and [Advanstar Inc.] CEO Joe Loggia supported me from the very beginning. It truly takes a village, and the company has been supportive the whole time.”

In 2012, Advanstar acquired ENK International, building the portfolio further. Today, Gallin oversees footwear for the Sole Commerce, Sourcing at Magic and WSA at Magic trade shows, among others.  She also helped launch the men’s event Project Sole, which took place last month in New York.

“The footwear business is in a wonderful time right now. Much is happening,” Gallin said. For example, she said more global companies are targeting the U.S. consumer market, while American firms are rebuilding U.S. manufacturing.

Moving forward, Gallin plans to beef up her executive team and introduce more educational programs that will benefit the industry.

She also is focused on tapping into the omnichannel opportunity. “We are looking at new ways to connect retailers and consumers,” she said, citing Magic’s “Shop the Floor” online initiative, which makes it easier for retailers to navigate the trade shows.

In other Advanstar news, Christopher Griffin was promoted to president of WWD Magic and Sourcing at Magic. He was previously VP for both.
