Ivy Kirzhner is taking her brand into new territory. The designer will launch her diffusion label Saint & Libertine internationally this fall in Hudson’s Bay in Canada and Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong. FN talked to the designer about her latest offering, developing a team and brand identity, and how she’d like to expand in the future.

1. What was the inspiration for resort ’15?
IK:
The resort collection embodies relaxed island attitudes, but revitalized with a modern luxe sleekness. I incorporated lots of texture and movement, with fringe as a nod to grass skirts and swinging palms. I was definitely channeling the movies “South Pacific” with the island of Bali Hai, and “Blue Hawaii” with Elvis Presley.

2. What is the biggest challenge you’ve experienced since launching your brand in 2012?
IK:
Our biggest challenge was finding the right team to work with us on further establishing and growing the brand. We already had the blueprint, with the skeletal frame, the brain, nervous system, the heart and even the bloodline established at our brand's core. But we needed the right muscles — people with the right talent who fit in with our company culture and who know how to help us execute our company's vision. We're a small and lean operation, so finding the correct individuals to form a well-synchronized, talented team is so important.

3. Who is the Ivy Kirzhner woman?
IK:
The Ivy Kirzhner woman is globally eclectic. She loves to travel and is inspired by a range of cultural motifs. She is definitely creative, either for work or for play, and dresses herself starting with her shoes. She is the kind of girl who always makes a statement with her style, but in a subtle and understated way.

4. Do you have any dream collaborations?
IK:
I absolutely love candles and would love to collaborate with Voluspa to make custom Ivy Kirzhner scents and special-edition packaging. I always burn candles in my home and in my showroom, and look forward to one day having candles of my own.

5. What’s your ultimate New York night?
IK:
My ultimate New York night is very low key. It would start with dinner from one of my favorite restaurants followed by drinks at home with my close friends. For a nightcap, I can be found lounging on the couch with my husband and with my pet bunny, Bonkers, watching the latest “Game of Thrones” on our projector.
