Willian Cardoso is riding the Rider waves.
The Brazilian professional surfer, who joined the Rider team February of last year, continues to make moves in his sport. Most recently, he finished second in the U.S. Open World Cup of Surfing, in Huntington Beach, Calif.
"I think years of competing has given me lots of experience," said Cardoso. "The feeling of surfing. It's powerful. And to have fun with friends is something unique. You enter the sea and forget all your troubles."
And while out of the water, Cardoso can be found in Rider styles, of course.
"The [brand] represents Brazil by taking the colors and name of my country," he said. "Also, I like the lightness and simplicity of our sandals."
Here, Cardoso sounds off on his hang 10 lifestyle.
1. What are some the favorite events you've surfed?
WC: I've had a great time in my career, but in 2013, I competed at Bells Beach and beat surfing legend Kelly Slater in the third round of the event. Ultimately, I finished fifth in the event, but it was a big turnaround. I was returning from an injury and did a beautiful presentation all week.
2. What do you enjoy about living in Brazil?
WC: I love living in Brazil. I think the people are different, always smiling and waiting for each other with open arms. The food is something from another world.
3. What inspires you?
WC: My parents were always very scrappy people, and it made me proud, because whenever something knocked them down, they could come out on top. For surfing, Neco Padarataz was very similar, and it inspired me so much.
