The Outdoor Retailer trade show on Thursday announced it had shifted the dates of the summer market after an exhaustive research process.

The 2010 summer market open-air demo will now take place on Aug. 2, followed by the summer market expo, which will run Aug. 3-6.

Show Director Kenji Haroutunian said in a statement that the move was designed to better serve the retail group that attends the show. “The purpose of Outdoor Retailer continues to provide the best possible show experience, serving the diverse business needs of the outdoor recreation industry,” he said. “We’re confident the new dates will provide balanced timing for retailers, large and small, who are managing tight inventories in peak season with vendors finalizing pre-season orders.”

According to the organization, independent research confirmed the need to move the show to the July to mid-August timeframe. A survey conducted in January showed that the first week of August was the optimal week for most attendees.
