Warren Weitzman, who spent 50 years in the shoe business, died Sept. 3 in Henderson, Nev. He was 73.

After graduating from Colby College in Maine in 1958, Weitzman went into business with his father, Seymour, creating Seymour Shoes in Massachusetts. Weitzman next moved to Spain with his brother Stuart in 1971, when the company was renamed Stuart Weitzman.

Warren Weitzman then took a different path, spending the next few decades traveling across the world, working as a manufacturer for women’s shoes. He held posts at Candie’s in Italy, Innocence in Hungary and Jasmine Shoes in Hong Kong. In 1991, he moved back to the East Coast, where he worked as a recruiter for 11 years at Rama Shoes Industries, before retiring in 2002.

“Warren was the perfect big brother, friend and protector in my youth; teacher as I entered the industry [and] learned shoe and patternmaking in his factory in Massachusetts; and lots of fun during our years together,” said Stuart Weitzman. “I, and those who knew him, have wonderful memories of our times together.”
