• Zappos.com has more than 10 million customers.

• The longest customer service call lasted about 4 hours.

• CEO Tony Hsieh receives about 2,000 e-mails a day.

• The company carries $180 million in inventory and stocks more than 4 million shoes, handbags, apparel items and other accessories.

• The single biggest sales day was Dec. 15, 2008: $6,123,012.

• 5 percent to 8 percent of sales are private-label.

• The original Zappos headquarters in San Francisco was located directly above Craigslist.

• Customers post 1,000 to 1,500 comments on products each day.

• Founder Nick Swinmurn met his wife, Gaby, at the company where she was a handbag buyer.

• A group of female singers at the company are called the Zappettes.

• Hsieh met Chairman, COO and CFO Alfred Lin at Harvard University, when Hsieh was running a pizza business and Lin was his No. 1 customer.

• Lin drinks half a case to a whole case of Diet Dr. Pepper per day.

• Fred Mossler, Zappos’ first employee, was promoted to “No Title” on Dec. 30, 2007, because no one could think of a proper label for him. He was previously the SVP of merchandising.

• In October 2008, Hsieh had nearly 11,000 followers on Twitter. Last week, he had 523,274.

• On YouTube, the Kiva robots in the fulfillment center perform “The Dance of the Bots,” inspired by The Nutcracker ballet.

• The Henderson, Nev., office features a “quiet room” with couches for naps. It previously had napping pods, but employees preferred couches, so the room was changed back.
