Ruthie Davis is applying her disco glam shoe style to handbags for spring ’11. The New York-based designer is introducing a line of clutches, totes, barrel bags, cross-body minis and doctor bags that mirror the modern glamour of her spring footwear line. The bag collection includes five styles in several colorways, featuring such materials and treatments as nuts and bolts, spikes, studs, neon patents, metallics, oversized chucky hardware and glitter. All bags have an inside compartment for shoe storage, and will retail for $895 to $1,500. The line has been picked up by Sarca in Chicago and Fenton-Fallon in New York and is being targeted at Neiman Marcus, Kitson and high-end shops.
The days of barefoot yoga classes are no more. Blake Brody has created In-Studio Footwear, designed as a fashionable and safe alternative to bare feet, socks or athletic sneakers in the fitness studio. The eco-friendly shoes feature quick-drying anti-mildew liners, flexible and soft soles, padded arches that offer support without hindering natural movement and grip pads placed at major contact points between the foot and the ground for traction. The collection comes in five different styles on the same construction, each in two to three colors, ranging from green to gold, on coated canvas, denim, synthetic printed material or perforated satin. The shoes, priced between $98 to $135, are embellished with Swarovski crystals, flowers and bows, and are targeted at boutiques, gyms, hotels, spas and studios.
Lynchburg, Va.-based Consolidated Shoe Co. is taking inspiration from the Mediterranean with Bacio61, launching for spring. The women’s footwear line, designed by Maurizio Celin, includes a smaller cruise collection of 15 styles and a core collection of 40 looks, consisting of wedges, espadrilles, heels, sandals and flats. The shoes feature organic cotton, hemp, crystal and stone embellishments and come in a range of coastal colors, including orange, coral and turquoise. The line will retail for $129 to $169 at better independents.
Pazzo Inc. is branching out. The Scranton, Pa.-based company, which also creates Luna Rosa, is launching Jaguar for spring ’11. The 20-style collection includes signature flats, wedges, sandals, espadrilles and booties made from earthy materials such as tanned leathers, wood and rope. The contemporary brand will use a neutral color scheme of denim, creams, tans, khaki, camouflage print, blues and black, and will retail for less than $100 at better department stores and specialty retailers and boutiques.
Minnetonka Moccasin Co. is introducing Minnetonka Turquoise, a line of modern moccasin-inspired footwear. After a soft launch for fall ’10, the company is rolling out a full collection of sandals, moccasins and ballerina flats for spring ’11. The styles feature leather footbeds with uppers made from burnished leather and soft suede and are embellished with beads, fringe, studs and cutouts. Colors for the line range from neutrals to metallics with scarlet red and lagoon blue. The spring collection will retail for $59 to $79 at top independent retailers, including the Tannery in Boston and Hanig’s in Chicago, as well as select retailers in Paris, Amsterdam and Tokyo.
Bed Stu is going girly. The Camarillo, Calif.-based brand is bowing a full collection of feminine women’s footwear under the Santa Rosa name. The line, which made a soft debut for fall ’10, will introduce a broader spring offering of 15 styles, ranging from flats to boots. Santa Rosa blends Bed Stu’s vintage and bohemian look using heart-shaped cutouts, bronze embellishments and tartan fabrics. The $69-to-$120 offering is being targeted at independents and large retailers including Urban Outfitters.
Traditional bridal meets contemporary style with Jen & Kim for Coloriffics, launching for spring ’11. The Los Angeles-based brand, which is also taking its custom business to wholesale for spring, has teamed up with Speen & Co. to create 11 styles, ranging from strappy open-toe booties to delicate sandals. Embellished with crystal and stone details and silk accents, the collection will retail for $115 to $175 at specialty and bridal boutiques.
Klub Nico is launching a special occasion collection for spring that includes 25 styles of strappy heels and peep-toe pumps in a range of heel heights with metallic leathers and laser-cut details. The line also comprises bridal styles in black, silver and ivory satins embellished with sequins or crystals. Expected to retail between $160 and $240, the collection is being targeted at independent shops and will ship in October.
O’Couture is all about mixing things up. The Irvine, Calif.-based brand, founded by footwear novices Sebnem Eler Acar and Zehra Balkan Buyukuncu, is launching for spring ’11 with a line of interchangeable ballet flats. Ornaments — including ribbons, crystals, stones and beads — snap onto the toe of each shoe with a magnetic clasp. Two styles of leather flats in four neutral colors each retail for $150, while the embellishments range between $15 and $35. The line is sold at Ocouture.us and is being targeted at independent boutiques and gift stores.
