American Sole

Brown Shoe Co. and Dolphin Footwear are relaunching the Zodiac brand. A women’s line is slated to arrive in department stores and independent retailers this fall. St. Louis-based Brown Shoe acquired Zodiac when it purchased Bennett Footwear in 2005, though the brand has been out of the marketplace up until now. Hialeah, Fla.-based Dolphin has been tapped to handle the design, production and distribution of the line. The offering, which will retail from $69 to $149, includes classic American styles such as fringe boots, moccasins, western boots (at left) leather booties and patchwork platforms, many with hardware detailing. And stay tuned: a relaunch of the Zodiac men’s collection is in the works.
 
Long Shot

Paris-based handbag and leathergoods maker Longchamp is stepping into new territory with the addition of footwear for fall ’09. The small launch will feature two styles: a sleek black leather ankle boot and a black leather riding boot. Retailing from $480 to $590, the boots will be available exclusively in Longchamp boutiques worldwide.

Baggage Claim

For fall ’09, New York-based Aquatalia by Marvin K created a line of luggage tags crafted out of croc-embossed leather. The tags will be included with the purchase of the Unison boot (at left), which retails from $250 to $300 at select independent retailers and at better department stores. According to the company, the tags were created specifically to tie in with the Unison, which is recommended for frequent travelers due to its waterproof exterior and breathable lining.

Bloch Party

It’s no longer a flat world for Bloch. The Australian brand, which is known for its flexible ballet flats, is adding heels to its offering for fall ’09. Made in Italy and set to retail for $150 to $225, the 15-style offering of 1- to 3-inch heels includes boots and Mary Jane-style pumps.

Higher Calling

Cindy Traub, the president and creative mind behind Cindy Says footwear, is launching a line of what she calls “junior couture” footwear for fall ’09. The collection, called Calilla T (for Traub’s daughter Calli and daughter-in-law Priscilla), includes about 20 styles of shoes and boots made in Italy, Brazil and China. The shoes, which feature fur detailing and architectural heels, will retail for $200 to $500 in upscale boutiques in the U.S. and abroad, as well as at select department stores. The Cindy Says line, which retails for $90 to $290, is sold by about 400 retailers worldwide, including Nordstrom and Zappos.com.

Frye Note

Frye, best known for its classic riding and harness boots, is introducing leather journals (at right) and other gift items for fall ’09. In addition to the journal, Frye, which is owned by Great Neck, N.Y.-based Jimlar Corp., is adding a pen case, coin purse, clutch and wristlet to its collection of footwear and handbags. The items will retail for $80 to $150 at the company’s Web site, Thefryecompany.com, as well as in specialty boutiques.

Perfect Pair

Seychelles and Smashbox Cosmetics want women to put their best foot (and face) forward. The El Segundo, Calif.-based footwear company has teamed up with the makeup brand to release a Smashbox Cosmetics face palette inspired by the colors of Seychelles’ Temptress slingback platform heel, which comes in off-white, black, clay and pink. Available at select Nordstrom locations, the shoe will retail for $90, while the palette will retail for $42. Customers who purchase both items will receive a free, limited-edition tote bag. Beginning in April, Nordstom will host several “Pretty in Peep-Toes” in-store events to promote the collaboration.
