Trend Report: Lineapelle Leather Show

The Italy-based show exhibited subdued colors and toned-down metallics.

Leather houses exhibiting earlier this month at the Lineapelle show in Bologna, Italy, were not about to let the somber economic mood stifle creativity for next fall. However, they did turn the color wheel to a more subdued range with earthy shades and rainbow tones. Velvety suedes and luxurious exotics added texture to the color story. And while interest in shine waned a bit this season, metallics remained in demand, though also in toned-down silvers and bronzes. In a nod to the environment, vendors also emphasized their use of non-chemical, natural dyeing techniques, as well as their increased use of recycling in the production process. Here, Footwear News takes a look at the color and material contenders for next fall.

Earthly Wonders

Mother Nature provides inspiration for a palette of deep reds, earthy browns and leafy greens. These neo-neutrals take on surface interest in velvety suedes and printed effects.

Animal Tracks

Snakes, crocodiles and iguanas slithered across the color spectrum in camouflage tans and forest greens, as well as eye-catching lavenders and limes.
