Pensole Footwear Academy named Stefan Cristobal of the Philippines, winner of the 2014 Pensole World Sneaker Championship. The awards were presented at last week’s FN Platform show.

Cristobal designed a sneaker for the Android Homme brand, while Lindsey Johnson, the materials designer who worked with him on the project was awarded World Sneaker+Materials Champion.

According to Pensole founder D’Wayne Edwards, there are plans to release the design under the Android Homme label in 2015.

Cristobal was one of 30 hand-selected design students from 16 countries including China, Equador, Nigeria, the U.S. and Israel. The championship placed students in eight competitive design teams, with three footwear designers and one color and materials designer in each.

The students’ work was presented to noted footwear industry design professionals at Pensole and online in front of a panel of judges, who selected eight finalists. Final voting was done by footwear enthusiasts and sneaker heads worldwide on SI.com [Sports Illustrated].
