Splendid and Ella Moss are getting their footing in footwear.

The two brands, both divisions of VF Corp., launched shoes this year, and creative director Pamella Protzel-Scott is currently developing both lines with the help of footwear licensee New York Transit.

Over the past year, Protzel-Scott said her travels to Europe have been a big source of inspiration for the upcoming lines.

“For spring ’13, Splendid features floral prints and chambray, plus loads of the brand's signature stripes,” said Protzel-Scott. “For Ella Moss, the collection incorporates Western details, graphic prints and bits of shine. These influences are also seen throughout the footwear collections.”

VF also is gearing up to launch intimates for Ella Moss and will explore additional lifestyle categories in the future.

Here, Protzel-Scott sounds off on what’s in store for 2013 and the power of social media.

1. What have you learned so far this year regarding footwear?
PPS:
We've been able to gauge what works for each brand and expand on styles that have proven to be customer favorites.

2. How have you been using social media since the launches?
PPS:
Social media has been a big part of further telling the brand stories. The platform enables us to show our inspiration, happenings at the design studio and events. These channels offer up serious eye candy as well as insight into the brands.

3. What’s in store for 2013?
PPS:
More great shoes. What I love about footwear is it enables people to participate in a trend in their own ways. [As far as trends go], florals are big for spring '13, but wearing head-to-toe floral prints may be too much for some. Splendid has adorable floral shoes that allow you to partake of the trend in a smaller way.
