Footwear News editors found that athletic inspiration made a strong showing on fashionable feet. Luxe sneakers featuring hidden wedges and embellishments such as studs, glitter and color-blocking were one of the hottest shoe trends in 2012. Isabel Marant might have sparked the fervor with her high-end suede styles (far left), but other labels weren’t far behind. Early in the year, Highline United President Matt Joyce called the fashion sneaker “globally trendy,” and his firm’s Ash brand (near left) got a major boost from its sporty chic looks.
