The men’s Paris collections came to a close this weekend, with an emphasis on spring sandals and luxe fabrications.

Balmain’s loafers with woven uppers and contrast soles, our No. 1 pick, expertly combined wearability with the maison’s infamous edge. Other notable classics with updated elements included Mugler’s monk straps draped in colorful snakeskin and Loewe’s textured loafers. Balenciaga took the modern approach one step further, with sleek, cutout booties.

Sandals also were plentiful on the runway, as Louis Vuitton truly embraced nautical with boat shoes, water slides and, most notably, rope-strap gladiators. Dries Van Noten and Lanvin also experimented with the season’s staple, as the former showed new-age two-tone sandals and the latter offered minimalist asymmetrical styles. Paul Smith went with a more conservative sandal (and paired closed-toe looks with slim, cropped suits).

Maison Martin Margiela kept it simple with snakeskin slip-ons, while Viktor & Rolf got behind spring’s sneaker trend, pairing high-tops with each look.
