Footwear had a resolutely English spirit in the capital of cool. Wit, whimsy and wearability appeared to be chief concerns on the catwalk. Rainwear got a keen fashion update at the hands of newly installed Hunter Original creative director Alasdhair Willis (husband of Stella McCartney), who sent towering lug-sole and paint-splattered wellies down the runway. Burberry's Christopher Bailey culled the Bloomsbury Group’s oeuvre for his painterly print booties. Collaborations from leading London lights Rupert Sanderson (at Antonio Berardi) and Nicholas Kirkwood (at Erdem, Roksanda Ilincic and Peter Pilotto) stood out. Gianvito Rossi's creations for Mary Katrantzou were noteworthy for their quirky departure from his more subtle style, while Tom Ford's Santa Fe roots translated into a wild take on Western boots.
