It was a British invasion of standout shoe styles on the spring catwalks, and many big name shoe designers were in on the London takeover. From Nicholas Kirkwood’s sexy corset sandals for Peter Pilotto to Christian Louboutin’s crafty asymmetrical styles at Mary Katrantzou, lots of buzz surrounded the footwear in London. The season’s knee-high sandal boot trend continued at Acne and Marios Schwab (who collaborated with Ancient Greek Sandals), where a warrior princess theme broke forth with fringe and corsetry. But femininity was also key, as embroidered floral sandals added a fresh edge at Mulberry and quirky curlicue embellishments were a welcome surprise on Christopher Kane’s sandals. Matthew Williamson — once the king of collaborations with past runway collections by Manolo Blahnik, Charlotte Olympia and Laurence Dacade — celebrated 15 years this season by debuting a signature footwear line. Williamson tapped rising shoe talent Joanne Stoker to help execute his first offering, which features heavy Indian-inspired embellishments and custom sculpted platforms.
