The resort ’13 collections continue to gain steam with a range of footwear looks that include sophisticated white sandals and chunky styles with outlandish prints and embellishments.

Bright, punchy colors permeated the most recent collections, with citrus and berry shades on everything from platform sandals to forward-looking lug-sole loafers at BCBG Max Azria, DKNY and Marc Jacobs.

Designers including Missoni and Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem took things even further, with custom-designed prints on ladylike silhouettes. Kirkwood’s designs for Erdem feature 3-D floral embellishments covering a chunky block heel. Marc Jacobs also played with oversized decoration on his hefty platform sandals with jeweled buckles.

As a counterpoint to these outlandish styles, designers such as Jill Stuart and Rachel Roy opted for crisp, solid white looks.

Meanwhile, tougher shoes showed throughout the resort collections, with a selection of wedges grounding sleek warm-weather looks at Burberry Prorsum and Diesel Black Gold.

The ladylike vibe was alive and strong at Donna Karan, where single-soled sandals in a pastel palette boasted a refined aesthetic, and at Yigal Azrouel, where suede and snake sandals demonstrated minimalism at its coolest.

And no season is complete without a bit of sparkle, which appeared in the form of glitter and touches of high-shine metallic. Perhaps the most directional form of glitz came from Zero & Maria Cornejo, as the designer added a jolt of energy to printed apparel looks and zesty lemon metallic sandals on a low block heel.
