In perhaps the most highly anticipated debut this season, Alexander Wang stuck it to his doubters by delivering a highbrow collection for Balenciaga that did not disappoint. The newly installed creative director pulled from the house’s archives for a strong, womanly collection marked by modern, structured volumes and luxurious, custom fabrications such as laser-cut velvet and multilayered marbleized prints. But the footwear really led the way into the avant-garde. Toe-baring pointy pumps were anything but staid, thanks to T- and V-straps coming from the insole for a thong-like effect.
