Balenciaga’s Nicholas Ghesquiere presented a sophisticated, intriguing collection of colorful silk prints paired with sliced leather overlay tops, bold-colored lattice tunics, structured coats and draped skirts and dresses. For footwear, he had help from Pierre Hardy, whose clean-lined graphic shoes, while nodding to the women’s wear, might be his best yet. Minimalist prints were taken from the clothing, or in this case maybe the tiled floor, and repeated to beautiful effect on the footwear. Ankle booties with multi-strap vamps and covered toes looked sophisticated yet made a serious statement. Other styles included suede pumps with miniature buckle closures that were color-matched, either in bordeaux or black, to their corresponding looks. The best style, though, was the black-and-white, single-soled bootie shown here, which captures the essence of Pierre Hardy's sleek, graphic vision.
