Kate and Laura Mulleavy are getting serious about shoes. The sisters unveiled their first footwear collection on the runway Tuesday, much to the delight of fans who have long admired the designers’ depth of creativity. And the footwear offering did not disappoint, consisting of forward-looking T-strap booties and corseted ankle-wrap pumps, along with lace-front knee-high styles that had a combat boot-meets-graphic 1960s feel. As promised, the shoe styles bore no shortage of unique details, including Plexiglas heels filled with colored sand, and hints of canvas, leather, metal and wood. The standout shoe was this printed T-strap bootie featuring colored sand layers within the heel for a striped effect. Only the Mulleavys could bring together such diverse elements so seamlessly.
