Proenza Schouler spring '13

Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough are getting aggressive. Not only is Proenza Schouler’s business booming (its first store opened on Madison Avenue last week), but the spring show boasted an A-list front row including Kate Bosworth, Jessica Chastain, Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Florence Welch, as well as fellow designers Joseph Altuzarra and Tabitha Simmons.
A host of ultra-cool graphic, collage-inspired leather and printed looks showed on the runway, all of them worn with architectural sandals with tapered heels. But the show also begged the question: Is the aggressive sandal-boot making a comeback? So far for spring, we’ve seen Gianvito Rossi’s version at Altuzarra, a linked-panel approach at Alexander Wang, and now, a gladiator sandal-boot. While the corset front adds a sexy feminine detail, the sculpted metal heel balances this style with a polished edge.
