Gucci creative director Frida Giannini stepped over to the dark side this season and brought some fierce footwear with her. Tall equestrian crocodile boots made a powerful statement, even against brocade suiting, velvet blazers and ruffled blouses that set the tone for Gucci’s very Victorian collection. Suede ankle-strap slingbacks also stood out, providing subtle sex appeal to ladylike separates. Though they were a departure from the Gatsby-era drop-waist dresses and ornamental sandals from last season, these lace-up boots encompassed the beauty and drama Gucci is known for with a fresh perspective.
