Milan Runway Trend: Black & White

Designers turn to the classic combo on and off the runway.

Opposing forces are at work for spring ’13, as black and white appeared in virtually every major collection. The simplicity and sophistication that continue to permeate the season’s footwear offerings were further evident on the Milan runways in everything from minimalist sandals to knee-high boots. Graphic color-blocking and stripe-like effects were also offered in this classic color combo, with Sergio Rossi’s flat sandal and Fendi’s layered leather bootie (designed in collaboration with Nicholas Kirkwood) looking especially directional.
