The Paris collections reinvented the classics with unique textures, pops of colors and embellished silhouettes.
The spring ’13 Paris men’s collections have begun, showcasing standard styles, sneakers and over-the-top silhouettes.
Mugler and 3.1 Phillip Lim were not afraid to experiment with eccentric materials and combinations. At Mugler, leather cutout sandals echoed the look of the modernist apparel, along with dress shoes in blue, gray and orange snakeskin. Similarly, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s gladiators in cheetah print and crocodile provided an infusion of jungle influence to the collection of classics. And at Balmain, standard leather loafers were given an edge with woven uppers, buckled straps and contrast soles.

Balenciaga showed minimalist sleek black-and-white leather booties with neutral straps, while Jean Paul Gaultier reinvented the classic boat shoe with platforms and thick rubber soles.
Raf Simons’ show was a study in contrast as he paired formal looks with athletic kicks. Blazers were worn with sneakers, as well as traditional patent leather dress shoes. Sneakers were also on display at Viktor & Rolf Monsieur in silver and copper tones, illuminating the runway with their metallic sheen.
Louis Vuitton’s nautical-inspired designs indicated a seafaring spring. Boat shoes were given a modern update in stark white alongside classic canvas slip-ons and colorful multi-strap sandals. Dries Van Noten also embraced nautical style with crisscross sandals and slip-ons in classic navy and white, but with orange and army green detail.
At Rick Owens, open-toe platforms in metallics and wood topped with leg warmers in neutral hues gave off a boldly futuristic vibe.
