Karl Lagerfeld whipped things into shape last Tuesday at Chanel’s couture show in Paris. Models — in intricately embroidered chiffon and tulle dresses — took a sporty turn with footwear fit for the most upscale gym imaginable. The zeitgeisty designer sent the ladies down the runway in unforgettable sneakers adorned with beadwork and lace, which couture house Massaro is believed to have spent roughly 30 hours making by hand. For today’s luxury customer, the sneaker clearly has become the new status symbol.
