The kids’ line at Born has a new home. The comfort brand, a division of H.H. Brown, has tapped Randolph, Mass.-based BBC International as its new children’s licensee. Up until its fall ’09 delivery, the line had been licensed to Collective Brands Inc.’s Stride Rite division. BBC will debut its first Born collection for fall ’10, offering girls’ casuals and boots with many of the same comfort elements as the Born adult line (boys’ product will follow for holiday ’10). Among the styles available are clogs (above), embellished ballet flats, harness boots, Mary Jane shoes and slouch boots. In addition to toddler and youth looks, priced from $60 to $100, the collection includes a small pre-walker series, named Nuborn, which will retail from $30 to $40. Distribution is targeted to department stores, independents and e-tailers.
Henderson, Nev.-based Pediped is stepping into the legwear market with a line of tights and socks designed to complement its shoes. The assortment includes capri-style tights with a ruffle trim (at right) and full-leg tights, both made of soft pima cotton mixed with Lycra, as well as ribbed and cuff socks made of certified organic cotton. Available now, the items retail for $5 for socks and $10 to $15 for tights.
Aerosoles is angling for a piece of the kids’ business. The Edison, N.J.-based women’s fashion-comfort brand will introduce a companion girls’ line for fall ’10. The collection takes inspiration from the women’s product, borrowing silhouettes, colors and ornamentation for a range of casual and dress looks. In terms of construction, select styles incorporate the brand’s signature stitch-in-turn design, and every shoe features cushioned insoles and flexible unit bottoms. Produced in toddler and girls’ sizes, the line is slated to ship to stores in August and is available on a first-cost and wholesale basis. Retail prices will range from $20 to $35.
Embracing the takedown trend, Cole Haan is bringing its classic, all-American aesthetic to the kids’ market. The brand has tapped Hicksville, N.Y.-based Synclaire Brands (which also designs and produces the Stuart Weitzman and Kors Michael Kors kids’ lines) to introduce a collection of shoes for both boys and girls. Styling is inspired by the adult line, with looks including penny mocs, boat shoes and ballet flats. Select styles also feature Nike Air technology for added comfort. Launching for back-to-school, the line will span pre-walk to youth sizes and will retail for $60 to $100.
Miami-based Mia Kids is expanding its Mini Mia toddler offering to include infant sizes. The series of pre-walker shoes features the same fashion-forward styling as the main Mia Kids line and incorporates both soft and flexible unit bottoms suitable for growing feet. Slated for a July delivery, the shoes will retail from $29 to $39 at department stores, boutiques and independents.
Dansko has jumped back into the kids’ category with a new clog-based collection rolling out for back-to-school. The West Grove, Pa.-based brand, which last had kids’ product on store shelves in 2007, decided to reintroduce the division after ending its long-running partnership with Sanita (Sanita manufactured product for Dansko). This time around, the line has been reengineered for a more kid-friendly fit with lower-profile silhouettes and kid-specific lasts. The shoes, which retail on average for $70, will be available in European sizes 26 to 34. Delivery is slated for July.
Nine West is bringing its Vintage America women’s collection to the girls’ market. Featuring the same retro spirit as the adult styles, the kids’ offering includes ballet flats and Western-inspired boots (at right), done in materials with a burnished, distressed hand and embellished with antique hardware. Set for a June delivery, the collection will retail from $40 to $50, with distribution focused on department stores, independents and e-tailers.
