Footwear resources are maintaining their charitable initiatives despite a tough economy. Icon and Cape Clogs are donating sale proceeds to a range of causes, Soles4Souls is partnering with Red Wing to give shoes to the homeless and El Naturalista will donate proceeds to third-world countries.
Los Angeles-based Icon, known for its footwear collection featuring artwork of both masters and up-and-coming artists, has designed a special-edition collection to benefit Los Angeles Inner-City Arts, an organization where professional artists teach at-risk city kids free of charge. The collection of shoes and accessories, called Yes We Can, is a tribute to the country’s new leadership and features a flag motif with the slogan designed by Icon’s in-house artists. Icon will donate the same amount of money to the art foundation as it routinely pays in royalties to its artists. The company also is encouraging retailers to donate a portion of their sales to a community-based organization in their own area. The series is available for delivery in April to May. Retail prices range from $20 for luggage tags to $295 for a mule.
Cape Clogs, based in Bourne, Mass., is doing its part to help those with autism with the launch of its “One Step at a Time Campaign for Autism Awareness,” part of an ongoing cause-related initiative. With the purchase of a pair of its Puzzle Piece clogs, 10 percent of sales will be directed to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. The organization’s chief goal is to promote awareness and support for families affected by autism. The clog is available for $85 at retail for women’s sizes and $40 for children’s. The clog is also available for fundraising opportunities at wholesale costs.
Soles4Souls has announced it will partner with Invicta Watch Group in Hollywood, Fla., and Red Wing Shoes of Red Wing, Minn., to donate 10,000 pairs of new shoes to the homeless in Miami. The first donation will take place tomorrow, with the distribution of 1,000 pairs in partnership with Camillus House, an organization providing services to the poor and homeless in Miami-Dade County.
Spanish brand El Naturalista is expanding its ongoing Project Atauchi initiative this spring. So far, the company has donated more than $218,000 to care for and educate children in third-world countries. It will now designate a portion of the profits from the sale of every shoe (the original commitment included sales of footwear strictly from its Nasca collection). The company is focused on completing The City of Hope, a home for disabled and abandoned children in Arequipa, Peru.
