Marvin Huff, who worked in the footwear industry for more than 45 years, died in Parsippany, N.J., on May 2. He was 74.
Huff started his career as a salesman for Ansonia Shoe while he was attending the Navy Pier Campus at the University of Illinois. While on the job, he met his future wife Barbara after selling her a pair of orange suede shoes.
He later moved on to Florsheim Shoes in Chicago, where he worked for 20 years, starting as a buyer, before taking a position at Footstar Inc. in Mahwah, N.J. Huff stayed with that company until 2006, when he retired as the senior director of product development for Footstar.
Barbara Huff said the shoe industry always kept her husband happy, especially because of the interaction with customers and co-workers. “He was a people person, and a lot of people thought the world of him,” she said.
