Levi Strauss & Co. announced Tuesday the acquisition of DC Co., its licensee for footwear and accessories in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and parts of Asia, in an effort to strengthen that part of its offering.
The denim and apparel company has appointed Stefano di Martino, formerly of Nike and Fila, to lead the footwear and accessories business unit and its international licensing and new business division, which is responsible for developing the Levi’s brands accessories business.
“By bringing the footwear and accessories business in-house, we will be able to combine DC Co.’s expertise in footwear development, sourcing and distribution, and its entrepreneurial approach, with Levi’s broad footprint across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia,” Armin Broger, president of Levi Strauss Europe, Middle East and North Africa, said in a statement. “This action will strengthen our brand by offering consumers compelling head-to-toe choices.”
Aaron Boey, president of the Levi Strauss Asia Pacific division, added, "This acquisition gives us an excellent opportunity to further drive consistency across the Levi's brand by now including a category which holds enormous commercial potential for our business."
