Grizzly bears were loose on the Platform floor last week. And though no one was injured — they were of the costume kind, after all — they did do their job in garnering attention for the fall ’10 launch of Zigi New York's moccasin and fashionable shearling collection of footwear, Grizzleez. FN even spotted a few footwear industry insiders, like Modern Vintage's Abby Hay, tailing the bears in hopes of snagging a photo.
Toms Shoes joined footwear brands such as Puma and Timberland at Project this year, but founder and chief shoe giver Blake Mycoskie couldn't make the show. Instead, he was touring the states and has quickly become one of the most requested speakers across college campuses. Mycoskie has been on the road for about four months and plans to continue with occasional gigs throughout the year. Just a couple of weeks ago, Mycoskie ventured to Chapman University in Orange, Calif. to talk business and encourage entrepreneurship amongst the younger demographic.
Shoe-han no more?
Dina Lohan just can't seem to cut a break. Just months after the tabloid target – and Lindsay Lohan momager – staged a New York press conference announcing plans to launch a women's footwear collection with Long Island shop and e-commerce store Love My Shoes, FN is hearing the deal may be derailed. The culprit seems to be all the bad attention that seems to follow the celebrity mom. "It's always so negative every time she's mentioned in the media," one insider told FN. "What wants that?"
