Kohl’s Expands with New Stores

Upcoming doors will fill previous Mervyns locations.

Kohl’s Corp. this week opened 11 new stores, bringing its total number of doors added this spring to 19.
The 11 locations opened Wednesday include the company’s first Alaska store, in Anchorage, as well as doors in California, Arizona, Utah, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey and New York.

The Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based company said in a press release that each store opening brings with it 130 to 150 new jobs.
Kohl’s, which operates 1,022 stores nationwide, is also on target to open another 36 doors this year, most of which will go into former Mervyns locations, according to the company.
In December, Kohl’s acquired 31 Mervyns locations, and most of the openings slated for fall ’09 will go into those spaces. None of the 19 spring store openings were in former Mervyn’s locations.
