Footwear designer Max Kibardin won the first Who’s On Next award for men’s accessories at Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy, on Thursday.

The competition, sponsored by Pitti Immagine Uomo, Men’s Italian Vogue and Alta Roma, is designed to find new talents in men’s fashion. The women’s edition started five years ago.

Selected from among seven finalists, Kibardin, whose women’s footwear collection debuted in 2004, is launching a men’s shoe line for spring ’10. Turkish designer Umit Benan took the prize for ready-to-wear. And an honorable mention was given to Leitmotiv, for unique print designs.

The women’s edition of Who’s On Next takes place next month.
