NEW YORK — In a good year for the shoe industry, the winners of the 24th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards stood out from the rest of the pack.
Eleven executives, companies, retailers, brands and designers, and three Hall of Fame inductees, will be honored at a FFANY-sponsored event on Nov. 30. The invitation-only cocktail reception and awards presentation will be held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
“This year’s lineup is a powerful testament to the talent in our industry,” said Michael Atmore, editorial director of Footwear News. “Our honorees are breaking new ground with bold deals and inventive partnerships.”
Luxury force Christian Louboutin has been named Person of the Year. At the top of his game, the designer has seen his star rise significantly in 2010, with consumers embracing his designs and celebrities turning the red sole into a red-carpet staple.
The Jones Group, which added two of the industry’s biggest names — Stuart Weitzman and Brian Atwood — and continued to grow its core labels, will take home Company of the Year honors.
Atwood, who is dramatically expanding his namesake line with new categories and a forthcoming contemporary line with Jones, will receive the Designer of the Year Award.
Retailer of the Year Selfridges made a splash with its new mega shoe department, which launched in September with an extensive brand mix and boutique-style selling floor.
Other winners this year include Marketer of the Year Reebok; Brands of the Year Toms Shoes and Vibram; Launch of the Year Ivanka Trump; and Independent Retailer of the Year The Tannery.
The Vivian Infantino Emerging Talent award, which honors FN’s late fashion director, will be given to Charlotte Dellal, designer of Charlotte Olympia.
FN also will induct three people into its Hall of Fame: retiring Neiman Marcus CEO Burt Tansky; former Nordstrom EVP and GMM Jack Minuk; and Dawn Mello of Dawn Mello & Associates, who was formerly president of Bergdorf Goodman and creative director at Gucci.
Finally, FN will give the Philanthropy Award to Soles4Souls for its extensive work in Haiti and other disaster-stricken areas in 2010.
