NEW YORK — Finding opportunity in the weak economic climate will be the hot topic at this year’s Footwear News CEO Summit, set for May 6-8 in Palm Beach, Fla.

More than a dozen top footwear vendor and retail executives will discuss fresh strategies at the event, which is centered on the theme “A New Path: Ideas that Work.”

Featured speakers to date include Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, Deckers chief Angel Martinez, Jimmy Choo CEO Joshua Schulman, Diesel USA head Steve Birkhold, FitFlop founder Marcia Kilgore and Genesco retail vet Jim Estepa.

A number of other big names will be part of three panels at the event, including:

•“Footwear Fundamentals — Getting it Right” will feature Bob Campbell, CEO of BBC International; Joe Ouaknine, CEO of Titan Industries; and Birkenstock U.S. CEO Dan Bazinet, among others. The panelists will address topics from managing the supply chain and making sense of global sourcing to building retail partnerships and managing inventory.

•“Business Opportunities – What’s Working Now” will bring together H.H. Brown CEO Jim Issler, Wolverine World Wide CEO Blake Krueger and other industry leaders. The panel will examine areas of opportunity in today’s market and how firms can foster new ideas.

•“The New Fashion Equation,” which will feature Schwartz & Benjamin CEO Danny Schwartz, among others, will examine how consumers are defining — and redefining fashion — in today’s competitive market.

A Town Hall meeting will engage audience members on the state of retail.
