Footwear News and Brown Shoe Co. are teaming up with New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology to find the next big footwear designer.
The second season of FN Shoe Star will kick off this fall at FIT, with the Web-based reality show set to begin in early 2011. Six finalists will compete for the title and a soon-to-be-announced prize.
“Our industry needs innovative, fresh talent,” said Michael Atmore, editorial director of FN. “We’re looking for designers who can bring a new perspective to the business.”
Brown Shoe President and COO Diane Sullivan said the company’s involvement reinforces its commitment to finding and cultivating top talent in the product development area.
“Shining a spotlight on rising stars in footwear design is a great thing for the entire industry and will afford tremendous opportunities to the students participating in the competition,” Sullivan said.
“FN Shoe Star also provides rich content for our e-commerce sites, giving consumers a rare behind-the-scenes look at how their favorite shoes are made,” she added.
In addition to the ramped-up online component, where consumers around the world will be able to watch webisodes covering each of the contest’s diverse challenges, the new edition of the contest will also appear in the pages of FN.
