The FN Achievement Awards kicked off FFANY market week last Wednesday with a breakfast honoring the top newsmakers of 2008. First up was marketing megabrand Nike with a very on-message speech, followed by Blake Mycoskie of Toms Shoes,who earned the inaugural Philanthropy Award. Footwear launch honoree Under Armour delivered a rousing battle cry aimed at athletic competitors in the audience, while fellow Launch of the Year Jerome Rousseau hobnobbed with design award-winner Nicholas Kirkwood. Jimmy Choo and Hunter were named Brands of the Year, and style-savvy Target scored in the retail category. Brooks secured the Green Award for its efforts in sustainability, and the top independent, David Zaken, exuded New York attitude. E-tailer of the Year Net-a-Porter.com accepted its honors via virtual message from London, while French label Lanvin gave thanks for the Fashion House of the Year Award and newcomer Chrissie Morris took home the Vivian Infantino Emerging Talent Award. Hall of Famers Alan Cohen, Franco Fieramosca, Lance Clark and Arsho Baghsarian reminisced about their successes, and footwear powerhouse Brown Shoe Co. captured Company of the Year for its bold initiatives. Finally Deckers Outdoor Corp.’s Angel Martinez, the king of Cali comfort, closed the show as FN’s Person of the Year.
