Fila has signed on as the official tennis apparel and footwear partner for the 2009 Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha, Qatar, from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1.
It is the year-end event for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, where the top eight singles players and top four doubles teams in the world compete over six days for a prize fund totaling more than $4.5 million.
To commemorate the event, Fila has created a bespoke range of shoes incorporating the tournament’s purple and green theme. The designs are based on styles from Fila’s archives of the 1970s and 1980s. All court officials, ball crew members and onsite staff will wear the footwear.
Fila has a long history in tennis, with endorsement agreements for several Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and ATP Tour athletes.
