Top designers, footwear players and celebrities kicked off last week with a bang at a trio of events in New York. The CFDAs, one of the biggest fashion parties of the year, attracted big shoe names such as Blake Mycoskie, Tamara Mellon and Brian Atwood, who gathered at Lincoln Center to fête the U.S. fashion’s industry’s brightest stars. Over at the Hudson Hotel, Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh celebrated the release of his book, “Delivering Happiness,” with strobe lights, a button booth and even a worm farm on display. At the bash were Ivanka Trump and industry supporters, including Pentland’s Sonny Shar and Titan Industries’ Joe Ouaknine. Also that evening, the Footwear Distributors & Retailers of America hosted a leadership meet-and-greet that drew top execs such as Blake Krueger and Greg Tunney.
As the trade show week continued, so did the industry parties. H.H. Brown held a rooftop soirée on Tuesday, while later that night FFANY welcomed exhibitors, retailers and footwear insiders to the Rogue Tomate for its opening bash. FFANY President Joe Moore mingled over cocktails and appetizers with Brown Shoe execs Diane Sullivan and Ron Fromm. Also in attendance were Debbie King, Elyse Kroll and Donald Pliner, who showed off his loafers with a beaded portrait of the family dog, Babydoll. Meanwhile, White Mountain celebrated its 30th anniversary aboard an evening yacht cruise. On Wednesday, Footwear Unlimited hosted an after-hours party at the Warwick Hotel, Fortune Footwear marked its 25th anniversary on the rooftop at The Empire Hotel, and YP for 2010 acknowledged Steve Madden’s 20th.
