This year’s Footwear News Summit, set for June 2 at the Asia Society in New York, will coincide with FFANY market week and the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s awards that evening.
To date, five major executives, designers and retailers are confirmed to speak at the event: Patrick Chalhoub, CEO of The Chalhoub Group; Sam Edelman, founder and president of the Sam Edelman division of Brown Shoe Co.; Patrik Frisk, president of Timberland; Peter Harris, president of Pedder Group; and Ivanka Trump, founder and CEO of the Ivanka Trump Collection.
“This year, we wanted to bring together some of the industry’s most innovative change agents,” said Michael Atmore, editorial director of FN. “In a complex global market, these leaders are dramatically altering the playing field.”
Trump plans to discuss her growing 4-year-old footwear venture (produced with Marc Fisher Footwear) and her vast entrepreneurial experience working alongside her father, Donald Trump.
Edelman, who is building a powerhouse contemporary label with Brown Shoe, will take the stage to talk about his journey to this point.
Frisk, meanwhile, will offer behind-the-scenes details about remaking Timberland as a leaner, more-focused, outdoor-inspired brand that isn’t afraid to embrace style.
Chalhoub will delve into his company’s huge focus on footwear, most notably with Level Shoe District, a retail mecca in Dubai boasting nearly 400 shoe brands across all categories and price points. (For more on Level, see page 62.)
And finally, Harris will sound off on Pedder Group’s diverse strategy in Asia, where it dominates the market with its own stores, concessions at Lane Crawford and retail deals with key brands.
