PARIS — Fans of Christian Lacroix's signature style soon will be able to move right in.

The couturier has been tapped to design the facade, lobby and interiors of a residential tower in Dubai in a joint venture with Kuwaiti-based developer Abyaar.

Details about the 38-unit beachside project, with views of Dubai's coastline and landmarks such as the Burj al Arab hotel, have yet to be revealed, including the target opening date and cost. However, Abyaar promises an avant-garde building reflecting Lacroix's signature mix of far-flung design references.

Lacroix said the interiors would "tell a fanciful Middle Eastern story," blending contemporary and Baroque styles and Eastern and Western influences.

Residential projects are the latest brand extension for European designers, with the first Giorgio Armani residences unveiled last fall in Dubai. A consummate multitasker, Lacroix already has designed two hotels in Paris as well as the interiors of high-speed trains, movie theaters and tramway cars.
